Why is she/are they included here?
Recently in our town, we had a gathering for International Women’s day. One of the activities suggested was singing some songs and, of course, our anthem “I Am Women” had to be included. In 1972, I was a student at university in Australia, so I know the song “I Am Woman” off by heart. My contemporaries have pretty much the same experience, but we had to run off copies of the lyrics for some of the younger participants.
Fun fact: Helen Reddy and I were born in the same city 🙂
I Am Woman, Delta Dawn, Angie
I was very strongly influenced by women’s magazines and I really believed that a woman could not be married and raise a family and have a successful career all at the same time.
Other performance skills:
Sample of lyrics:
I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an’ pretend
‘Cause I’ve heard it all before
And I’ve been down there on the floor
No one’s ever gonna keep me down again
I am Woman, 1972
